Research Notes

Why does the marriage record of Sarah and Samuel call her Sarah Crofut? Did she marry an unknown Crofut before her marriage to Samuel? Did the clerk make an error?

An unsourced rootsweb post informs that Samuel Crofut married Lucy Jane Davern, Sarah Seely, and Abigail Seely.

Lucy-Jane Davern, daughter of John and Lois (Knapp) Davern, b. abt 1770, d. at Bethel 1856 at 86, m. (1) _____ Patchen, m. (2) Samuel Crofut.[4] (Lemuel Patchen: unsourced)

An SAR Application says he was born 1734 in Danbury; died 1831 Bethel
