Early Life

William was a first-generation American born in Pensacola, Florida on October 8, 1859 [1] to Adam Crooke (an Irish born civil war veteran) and German-born Elizabeth Powers. He was the oldest of six children.
In 1870, The Crookes are a farming family living in Escambia, Florida. George, Jr (age 18), Elicia (age 15), William Adam (age 11), John Thomas (age 3), and Charles (age 2) live at home. [2]
In 1880, he lives in Texas with his older brother, George, Jr's family, and helps on the farm: [3]

Marriage and Family Life

Jennie Gurganus

On December 15, 1883, William Adam marries Mariah/Maria Jane Gurganus (of North Carolina]] in Pensacola, Florida. [4][5][6]
In 1885, William and Maria live on a farm in Pensacola with their first child, Reuben. [7]
In 1900, the family lives on 580 Olivia Street in Pensacola, Florida. William loads ships on the docks to support the growing family. They now have 7 children and all 7 live at home. Reuben (15 years old), Eva (14 years old]], Lillie, (11 years old), Billie (9 years old), Laura (7 Years old), Ola (5 Years old), and Walter (3 Years Old). [8]He is probably working with his brothers, Charles and John Thomas, who also work on the docks.
In 1910, the family rented a house on 916 West Main Street, but they still lived in Pensacola, Florida. William still supported the family by loading ships on the dock. William, Jr (Billy), Laura, Ola, and Walter still live at home. [9]
On January 7 of 1915, Jennie passed away.

Marraige to Rachel Idell

On October 10, 1915, Rachel Mathis and William Crooke married in Escambia County, Florida. [10] Rachel was 34 and he was 56.
In 1916, he and Idelle moved near Strong street and he continued working as a Bayman loading the ships at the docks. [11]
By 1920, William started his own business as a wagon driver. They bought their own house in Kuprians Park in Pensacola on Little Bryan Street. The couple had given birth to three children: Charlie, Gladys, and and a child whose name is illegible. It is possibly Emory, but the birthyear is off a few years. [12]

Death and Burial

William Adam died on July 26, 1927 at the age of 69. He is buried in St. John's Cemetery in Pensacola, Florida. [1][13]
