Hi Alan,

We're contacting you for the annual Australia Project membership checkin. We really appreciate your involvement in the Project in the last year. Thank you so much for all your help to improve Australian profiles on WikiTree.

Please could you reply to this message, or send me a private message to let us know if you'd like to stay on in the Project, and if you'd like to make any changes to the teams that you belong to. The teams are listed on Australia Project Teams.

If you've moved on to other things for the moment, that's absolutely fine. We'd appreciate if you'd let us know so that we can remove you from the membership list.

Over the past year, Australia Project members have been more active on Discord. We're finding it a fun way to communicate as a project. If you're not on Discord yet, here's some information - Help:Discord. If you are already on the WikiTree Discord server, let us know, and we can send you an invite link to the dedicated Australia Project server (WikiAustralia) where all our chat channels are located. It's a great way to communicate with other members on your project team/s, or for any general questions.

We're always happy to receive any ideas or suggestions that you have to make our project even better.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

The Australia Project Leadership Team ~ Gillian, Margaret and Veronica

Hi Alan,

It's time for the annual Australia Project membership checkin. Thank you so much for contributing to the project and Australian profiles on WikiTree during the last year. We really appreciate you!

If you would like to stay in the project, please reply to this message or send me a private message to let us know that you would like to stay on. Alternatively, if your WikiTree and research interests have moved away from Australia, please let us know and we can remove you from the membership list for the moment. You will, of course, be very welcome to rejoin the project down the track whenever you want to.

We are also keen to know if you want to make any changes to the team or teams that you want to focus on. Take a look on Australia Project Teams to see what teams there are to choose from. If you want to discuss this, or have any questions or suggestions about the Australia Project we'd love to hear your ideas.

Thanks for taking the time to get back to us!

Kind Regards Margaret Haining Membership Coordinator

Hello Alan,

Please could you reply to this message, to let us know if you would like to stay on in the project and if you are happy with your current role and team involvement.

If you would like to do something additional or different, take a look on the Australia Project page to see what other opportunities there are.

It would also be great to get any feedback or suggestions that you have to improve the project.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Gillian, Co-leader, Australia Project

Hi Gillian - thanks for that and apologies for the delay in replying. I'm happy to stay in the project. I have spent most of my time recently refreshing entries from a recent GEDCOM and adopting orphan profiles associated with my direct family. If there was a way for there to be individual sub-projects related to Australian entries that can be dealt with in a few hours of work that would be great. Of course I am also updating my tree on Ancestry and improving my own database in parallel with stuff I do on Wikitree.

Cheers

Alan

G'day Alan, thank you for your recent additions to the Murray family. I have just removed myself as profile manager from Murray-11227 so you can take it over. My interest in the family is that I and my 2nd cousin have an unidentfied 2nd-4th cousin dna match with a living decendant of Murray-11227. We all have Tasmanian ancestors

Alan, I believe your Benjamin Lappin will be my great-uncle, one of the large Lappin clan in and around Chiltern, who tragically died in a mining accident - https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/137589802/benjamin-lappin.

Here is some of the detail from the above article:

Born at Durham Lead, which was near Chiltern, Victoria.

Parents - James Lappin and Martha Best.

Married 1908, Victoria.

Children: Joyce Lucinda 1909-2003 Walter Benjamin 1911-1922 Mary Rachel (Bagley) 1913-1987 Olive Matilda (Owen) 1915-2001

Federal Standard (Chiltern, Vic. : 1914 - 1918), Fri 7 Aug 1914, Page 2, FATAL MINING ACCIDENT AT CHILTERN VALLEY.

MR. BENJAMIN LAPPIN THE VICTIM. While working in the Chiltern Valley No. 8 mine, on Wednesday, Mr Benjamin Lappin was killed by a fall of earth and timber... ...The manager (Mr J. Cock) who was on the mine, speedily got the men to work to remove the debris and he never left the place until 11 o'clock at night when the body was recovered. The relays of men who were present worked liked Trojans and it was with great regret that they found life extinct when their old comrade was discovered. His three brothers, Messrs William, Jacob and Alfred, were present at the mine during the operations, and lent valuable help in the relief work... ...Deceased, who was 40 years of age, was the son of the late Mr James Lappin and a native of Xmastown. For up wards of 25 years he had been employed by the Chiltern Valley Company... ...The greatest sympathy is felt for his widow and three little children, the eldest being about five years of age, who have been bereft by their breadwinner.

Inscription In loving memory of Benjamin Lappin, accidentally killed Aug 4th 1914, aged 46 years. Also his son, Walter, died Oct 4th 1922 aged 11 years. Thy will be done. Hello Alan,

Thanks for taking the Pre-1700 Quiz!

Because pre-1700 ancestors are usually shared by many descendants, collaborating with members of the projects which coordinate them is essential.

Use the Pre-1700 Projects list to find one which best fits your research focus, whether time period, location, or topic. Review the project pages to learn about resources and guidelines as well as how to collaborate with the project members. I see you have already joined the Australia Project; the above list might be helpful if you want to see other available projects.

Can't find what you're looking for? Let me know, and I can make some suggestions! :-)

Remember to cite reliable sources in pre-1700 profiles you manage, or edit. (See: Pre-1700 Reliable Sources).

Hi Alan, welcome to the Australia Project. We are delighted that you have joined us. To follow discussions about Australia on the G2G, don't forget to add Australia to your tags. Gillian, co-Leader, Australia Project.

Hi Alan

I noticed that you have uploaded a GEDCOM file, you may like to take a look at the GEDCOMpare process guide. It has tips on how to use the data in your file most efficiently.
