William Cropley was born in Norfolk County England and migrated to Wilmot, Nova Scotia. He also lived at Hanley Mountain. His son John was also born in England. John was the only heir listed in his will, which was executed November 11, 1817. The witness to his will were John Slocomb and William Lavinea. William was a lay reader in the Church of England. He was the first teacher in Hanley Mountain. He came to Nova Scotia in 1783.
Per source, Sarony's supplement to Calnecks History of Anapolis, William Corpley was in Philidelphia in 1776. Per source "Musternoll", William arrived from Bermuda in 1784.
