Mary's birthdate, parents and home residence have not been ascertained.
Mary Ann Crosbie married Daniel Bannatyne on 28 October 1853 in Glasgow[1] The register entry states: "Daniel Bannatyne, mason & Mary Ann Crosbie, both residing in Barony Parish. Married at Glasgow on the 28th day of October 1853 by the Rev James Smith Taylor minister of the United Presbyterian Church Hospital Street Hutchesontown, Gorbals". The UP Church stood on the corner of Hospital Street and Rutherglen Loan.
Daniel Bannatyne, mason and Mary Ann Crosbie had a lawful son their first child named John born on 21 March 1854 at Grace Street Finnieston, an industrial suburb on the north bank of the River Clyde in Glasgow[2]. The register records that John and Duncan Bannatyne were witnesses.
Daniel and Mary Ann had a daughter born in 1857 in Buninyong, Victoria named Jessie[3]. Buninyong was the site of significant mining activity in the 1850-60s, it was around 8 miles south of Ballarat. There were significant lode and alluvial gold deposit in the area.
Daniel and Mary Ann must have emigrated to the Colony of Victoria between 1853 and 1857. They subsequently emigrated to the Otago region of New Zealand in 1862. Daniel's obituary records: "whom the outbreak of the gold diggings brought from Victoria by the Asa Elridge in January, 1862."[4]
Mary died on 7 June 1876 in Dunedin, Otago and was buried in Lot 17 Block 9 Dunedin North Cemetery
