Biography
In 1892 at the age of 23, he went to cutting trees near Bogue Chitto. In 1896 he married his brother John's sister in law. In 1915 he moved with his wife and three sons from Brookhaven to Picayune, which had an immense stand of native loblolly and southern pine. He was a very generous man. He and his wife took into their home several girls. He financed the education of many individuals. He was not a good driver because he was always too busy greeting people, so he had chauffeurs. He used pokeberry root poultice from Bogue Chitto for arthritis in his knees. He was one of the founders of the Ross Lumber Co. He purchased the Goodyear Yellow Pine Co., the Foster Creek Lumber and Manufacturing Co. The town Stephenson was changed to Crosby. He was devoted to community advancement and human betterment.
