Other documents have birth date as 27 Jan 1803, such as his master mariners certificate. Could be misreading of 4 or 7.
There is also potential confusion also with John Crosby (1803-) born in same parish 27 Jan 1803.
The informant on his death certificate is daughter, Sarah (Crosby) Fortune.
The John Crosby who died 1852 in what is now Pillau, Kaliningrad, Kaliningradskaya, Russia was a different John Crosby, though currently unable to source this overseas death, possibly on a Monumental Inscription in Whitby.
