Notes

The name Asahel, Asel, Ashel and Acel appears in many of the Cross families.

From North Carolina Chronicles it appears that one Asel Cross was convicted of treason in Rowan County in 1789, but he was such a good man his neighbors interceded for him and his sentence was commuted.

W. Cross Date: January 18, 2000 . . . just this afternoon I received the following information on the Dimmitt Family of Baltimore County it had the following statement concerning Asahel Cross: "While it is true that James and Barbara (Dimmitt) did have a daughter named Elizabeth who is referred to in her father's will of 1772 by her married name of CROSS, it is virtually certain that she was the wife of ZACHARIAH CROSS, a brother of the ASAEL CROSS who married Elizabeth's sister Mary, and that both Cross families migrated with James Dimmitt and his family to Rowan County in 1765. V. Crotty who owns the Little-Daley-Prince-Gambino Family Tree at Ancestry.com say Pleasant Asael CROSS died in 1832 in Bedford, TN.

It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Asahel by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Asahel:
