Biography

Etha was born on June 13, 1912 at Huntsville in Scott County, Tennessee. She was the daughter of Rev. William A Cross and Emily Clemson ( Sexton ) Cross . She married Howard Sherman Newport on September 13, 1931 in Scott County. She passed away unexpectedly on Friday, August 25, 1989, while visiting members of her family in Woodbridge, Prince William County, Virginia.

Obituary,

Etha M. Newport, 77, of Dallas, Tex., formerly of Scott County, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, August 25, 1989, while visiting members of her family in Woodbridge, Va. Mrs. Newport, who was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Newport, had lived in Dallas for the past four years after living for a number of years in McAllen, Tex. She was formerly a longtime manager of the S&H Greenstamp Redemption Co. in McAllen and was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church in McAllen. Survivors include three sons: Dennis Newport of Woodbridge, Va., William Newport of Terrell, Tex., and Bruce Newport of Bay City, Tex.; one brother, Hayward Cross of Arnold, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, August 29, at 10 a.m. at Kreidier Memorial Chapel in McAllen, Tex., with Rev. Travis Moore, pastor of Trinity Baptist church officiating.
