Alva married Sarah Ann Betts on 23 Dec 1846 in Perrysburg, Cattaraugus county, New York.[citation needed] They had a large family.
Alva, wife Sarah (aka Sally), and their son Ethan were living with his parents in Girard township, Erie, Pennsylvania in 1850.[1] In 1860, 1870, and 1880, they were in in their own household in Girard township.[2][3][4]
