Biography

Julius was born 28 Jan 1850 in Ohio. He was the son of Julius C Cross and Harriet Gilmore.

In August 1850 he was living in Toledo, ward 2, Lucas, Ohio.[1] The household included Benjamin Gilmore age 41 born in New York, Mary Gilmore age 41 born in Canada, Mary Gilmore age 22 born in New Hampshire, Harriet Gilmore age 20 born in New Hampshire, John Gilmore age 19 born in Vermont, Emma Gilmore age 4 born in Michigan and Julius Gilmore age 6 months born in Ohio. Benjamin was a blacksmith. John was a ???.

In 1860 he was living in Lockport Township, St Joseph, Michigan.[2] The household included Julius C Cross age 37 born in New York, Harriet Cross age 37 born in New York, Julius Cross age 10 born in Ohio, Frances Cross age 8 born in Michigan, George Cross age 6 born in Indiana, Winifred Dolan age 22 born in Ireland, Benjamin Gilmore age 49 born in New Hampshire, Mary Gilmore age 49 born in Canada, Emma Gilmore age 13 born in Michigan and Jeanette Brayton age 20 born in New York. Julius was a jeweler. Harriet was a dress maker. Benjamin was a blacksmith. Jeanette was a dress maker.

In 1870 he was living in Savanna, Carroll, Illinois.[3] The household included Julius C Cross age 45 born in New York, Maria Cross age 39 born in New Hampshire, Julius Cross age 20 born in Ohio, and Frances Cross age 18 born in Michigan. The elder Julius was jeweler. Maria was a milliner.

Eva A Risley and Julius C. Cross were married 19 Jan 1874 in Rock Island, Illinois[4] They were married again in a religious ceremony 27 Jan 1874 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.[5]

In 1880 he was living in Savanna, Carroll, Illinois.[6] The household included Julius C Cross age 30 born in Ohio, wife Eva A Cross age 24 born in Illinois, daughter Laura H Cross age 4 born in Illinois, daughter Addie Cross age 2 born in Illinois and father-in-law O G Risleg (sic) age 67 born in New York. Julius was a clerk in a store.

In 1890 he was living in Kingfisher, Kingfisher, Oklahoma.[7] The household included Julius C Cross age 40 born in Ohio, wife Eva A Cross age 33 born in Illinois, daughter Laura A Cross age 14 born in Illinois, and daughter Hattie M Cross age 6 born in Illinois.

In 1900 he was living in Kingfisher Township Kingfisher city Ward 1-4, Kingfisher, Oklahoma Territory, United States.[8] The household included Julius Cross age 50 born in Ohio, wife Emma Cross age 44 born in Illinois, daughter Laura A Cross age 24 born in Illinois, son William J Cross age 14 born in Kansas, daughter Marie Cross age 6 born in Oklahoma, and servant Nettie Logan age 19 born in Arkansas. Julius was an agent for Pabst Beer Co. Eva was the mother of 5 children, 4 living. Laura was working as a clerk.

In 1910 he was living in Kingfisher Ward 4, Kingfisher, Oklahoma, United States.[9] The household included Julies C Coose age 60 born in Ohio, wife Eva A Coose age 54 born in Illinois, and daughter Marie A Coose age 16 born in Oklahoma. Julius was a foreman at an ice plant. Eva was the mother of 5 children, 4 living.

He died 10 Dec 1915 in Kingfisher, Oklahoma.[10]

He is buried in Kingfisher Cemetery, Kingfisher, Kingfisher County, Oklahoma.[11]

Research Notes

According to his marriage record, he was the son of Julius C Cross and H.C. Cross. The obituary posted on the gravesite memorial for Julius C Cross (Sr) states that he was born in Antwerp, New York, had a brother named Japheth, and married Harriet Gilmore in 1849. Julius C Cross (Jr) son was named William Japheth Cross. This obituary also says that Sr returned from the Civil War to Antwerp where he remained until 1871. Harriet died young.

In the 1880 census, he reported that both parents were born in New York. In the 1900 census he reported that his father was born in New York and his mother was born in Michigan
