Elizabeth was born about 1829. She is the daughter of John Cross and Margaret McInnes.

In 1841, at the age of 12, Elizabeth is living at Tobago Street S10, with her parents John and Margaret, and her siblings, Agnes age 18, Lewis age 14 and Peter age 9. Elizabeth is a Cotton Factory worker.

In 1851, at the age of 23, Elizabeth is living at 26 Brown Street, in the Parish of Glasgow St George, Lanarkshire, with her married sister Agnes Ferguson, a son of Agnes, Peter Ferguson age 6, her mother Margaret, age about 60, and a lodger, Peter Rodger age 4 months. Elizabeth is a Cotton thistler. Elizabeth is described as sister-in-law, so it must be the Ferguson house.
