↑(1886, December 30). Evening News (Sydney, NSW : 1869 - 1931), p. 4. Suicide by a Sensitive Lad:ALLEGED SUICIDE.-Yesterday morning at an early hour a youth, William Walter Chick, aged 14 years, who had recently resided with his relatives at Ellalong, died at the Maitland Hospital from the effects of a gunshot wound said to have been self-inflicted. The circumstances are peculiarly sad. It seemed that a serious accusation was made against the lad some few days since which he resented. On
being told that the police would be informed of what happened the foolish boy declared that he would shoot himself. Some little time afterwards he was found by his uncle bleeding from a wound in the head. This occurred near his uncle's residence at Ellalong, and he was brought to the Maitland hospital on Monday evening. From the first little hope was entertained of his recovery. Death took place at about 5 o'clock yesterday morning: In the afternoon an inquest, was begun at the hospital, before Mr. Alfred Vindin, coroner, and adjourned till Tuesday for the attendance of witnesses.(Retrieved September 30, 2017)
