Patience Botsford was the daughter of Jacob Crossman and his second wife Polly Anne Botsford. When she was born, she had five half siblings and a full brother Botsford Crossman, her full brother, was b. 1836 and d. 1905. Patience Crossman was b. 1839 and d. 1907.

When Patience Crossman was born in November 1839, in Connecticut, United States, her father, Jacob Davis Crossman, was 50 and her mother, Polly A. Botsford, was 41.
