Thomas' parents separated and his father remarried in 1932.
The 1939 Register, taken on 29 September 1939, has been described as a snapshot of the civilian population of England and Wales just after the outbreak of the Second World War. The Register recorded each person's address, date of birth and occupation.
At that time Thomas, born 20 August 1903, was aged 36. He was living with the Moss family at 29 Lyon St, Barrow-in-Furness, Lancashire and working as a Salvation Army assurance agent.
Thomas Crossman married Ellen Holt at the Salvation Army Citadel, Abbey Rd, Barrow in Furness, Lancashire [Marriage Mar Qtr 1940/Barrow F. 8e 2335].
This couple had two sons.
Thomas had moved to Barrow in Furness in 1938. He worked as a betterware salesman, a Salvation Army Assurance Society Agent and as a grocer for Barrow Co-Op Society. Thomas retired in 1968 but continued to work part-time in the Co-Op shoe shop.
Ellen Crossman died on 26 Nov 1982 in Barrow in Furness [Death Dec Qtr 1982/Barrow F. 1 0083 – DOB 23 Mar 1908].
In 1887 Thomas moved to Norfolk to be closer to family. He died on 13 October 1990 at Scole Lodge Nursing Home in Scole, Norfolk [Death Oct 1990/Depwade, Norfolk 10 1115 – DOB 20 Aug 1903].
