Research Notes

Note: It is possible that the Doris May Crouch who married Albert George Adams in Victoria is a different Doris May Crouch.

She may have married Charles James Arthur Campbell on 5 January 1939 in Ryde, New South Wales, Australia [4].

Note: If she married Charles James Arthur Campbell as Doris May Crouch it is unlikely that she had been previously married.

Note: The original Date of Birth (DOB) on this profile was 1911, but this Doris May Crouch, wasn't born until 1916 (see the Source Below). "More research is required for this Profile. There may be two different women named Doris May Crouch. There are too many questions about this person's life.
Albert Thomas Clive Crawley was not married to, or in a relationship with, Doris May Crouch. but he was definitely in a relationship with her sister Ivy Jane (Crouch) Selman.
Doris May Crouch was the younger sister of Ivy Jane Crouch!

  • Assault Charges: The Cumberland Argus and Fruitgrowers Advocate (Parramatta, NSW: 1888 - 1950) Wed 30 Aug 1939 Page 3: THREE MONTHS! ASSAULTED HIS WIFE, FATHER ALSO Pleading guilty to charges of having assaulted his wife and his father, Charles James Arthur Campbell (35), at the Parramatta Police Court last Friday, was sentenced to three months' hard labor. It was stated that his wife is in a delicate state of health. "He's mad -- and always was," the father said. The assaults, which Campbell admitted, occurred at Lidcombe on August 23. Mrs. May Campbell said that she and the defendant had been married 7½ months, and that she was expecting a child in October. Until a fortnight ago, they were living together. Her husband at that time was on the dole. Sgt. Nagle said that, on the day in question, Campbell had been give in charge for assault, and his wife and his father were at the Lidcombe police station, Const. Ramsay having gone to arrest the defendant. "When the defendant was brought to the police station," the sergeant said, "his wife was sitting on a form just inside the door, alongside her father-in-law. The defendant said '1 won't support you,' and he bashed her with both fists on the side of the head. She was knocked practically un conscious, and was bleeding. A ser geant and a constable rushed over and pulled him away." Sgt. Nagle added that the defendant was perfectly sober. Charles Duncan Campbell, of Ann street, Lidcombe, said that, on the day in question, the defendant took his step-brother from school. The boy came home crying and said "Charlie said if I don't get his clothes he will bash my brains out." He (the witness) said to the defendant "What do you mean by fetching him out of school?" "LIKE A TIGER" "With that," the father said, "he flew at me like a raving tiger. He bit my hand, and struck me and kicked me. He kicked me under the heart, and I started to spit up blood." Sgt. Briese (police prosecutor): Is your son all right, mentally? No; he's mad -- and always was. None of his brothers will recognise him. Campbell said that he had never seen his son in a hotel. The defendant: I went to the school to get my young brother out to go down and get my clothes. I just asked him to get my clothes. 'My father made a swing at me, and I got into him. The father: I didn't make a swing at him., The magistrate: (Mr. Hardwick): What have you to say about this as sault on your wife? "I lost my block," Campbell said. "I didn't mean it. I got a punch on the head, and I lost my block." Sgt. Briese: When arrested, the de fendant had a horse-shoe in his pos session. He said he had it for his horse, but he has no horse. The defendant was sentenced to three months' hard labor.

Profile Concerns

There are a number of things that concern me about this profile and family.

I am concerned that maybe there's been an incorrect Merge.

Now, if this Doris May Crouch did marry Albert George Adams in Victoria in 1930 then she would have only been 14 years old.

Doris did not marry Albert Thomas Clive Crawley and this is where the merge may have gone wrong.

It is certain that Ivy Jane Crouch and George Henry Crouch were siblings and that they had also had two younger sisters Doris May Crouch and Ellen Louise (Crouch) Hulme, all being the children of George Charles Crouch and his wife Louisa Fearn. Ivy Jane was given as George's Next of Kin on his Military enlistment Papers and she was named as Ivy Jane ADAMS, his oldest sister! On Ivy's original Death Certificate it is recorded that Ivy was married to '"John'" Adams for 17 years.

It is not Doris but her sister Ivy Jane (Crouch) Selman who was buried in the same grave that Albert Thomas Clive Crawley was buried in 12 years later, in 1994. When Ivy died on 1 January 1982 (aged 69) she died as Ivy Selman and was actually buried as Ivy Jane Selman. Her death record confirms her name and DOD.
