Biography

Mary Estella Crouch was born on 14 October 1883^[1] in Montgomery County, North Carolina,^[2] although she used the nickname Stella as a young woman. She was the daughter of Columbus Crouch.^[3][4] Her mother's name is still under research, having been referred to as both Christian Crouch^[4] and Elizabeth Garrett.^[2]

At nineteen, Stella and Zach Cooper were married on 23 December 1900 in Roberdell, Rockingham township, Richmond County, North Carolina.^[4]

Mary lived in Charlotte, Mecklenburg, North Carolina, USA, with her husband through 1935.^[5][3][6][7]

By 1940, they had moved to Cabarrus Cabarrus County, North Carolina, USA, possibly to be closer to jobs in the mills.^[7]

Mary died at the age of about 67 on 19 September 1950 in Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, USA^[2] and was buried in Evergreen Cemetery in Charlotte.^[1]
