Biography

He was christened on 6 Jun 1897 in St Mary, West Horsley, Surrey, England. He married Grace Bentley on 1920 in Boston, Massachuetts, USA. He married Mary Alice Bailey on after 1941 in Weston, Massachuetts, USA. He died on 25 Jun 1975 in Hill, Boston, New Hampshire, Massachuetts, USA, aged 78. He appeared on the census of 1911 in West Horsley, Surrey, England, aged 14 yrs, a scholar, living with his parents and younger siblings. He served in WW1 as a Private in the 14th Btn. London Scottish Regiment, served in France and later the 30th Btn London Regiment. Was wounded in France, recoved in England then reassigned to POW camp in Massachusetts, USA. where he met his first wife. They married in 1920 and lived for a while in England before moving back to Massachusetts.After her death in 1941, he remarried in Weston, MA. Herbert had two sons both living in the USA. He spent the rest of his life living in Boston. between 1914 and 1918.

Herbert Richard Crouch, 1914, Royal Scottish Regiment of the British Army prior to deployment to France where he was the only survivor from a direct hit on his company of 10 men. After recovering in England he was assigned to train US Troops in Massachusetts who were being deployed to the trenches in 1917, fell in loved with a local gal, Grace Bentley, got married in England, and returned to the US a year later due to her being homesick! She died in 1941, and he married Mary Alice Bailey-Crouch four years later
