Research Notes

Please be careful as she can easily be confused with her sister Mary Emeline Croud. It appears that Maria Susan did not marry, whereas Mary Emeline was married to George Croud.

Hi Marina,

I'm reviewing Native American categorization and stickers etc. I see this profile includes a sticker and also includes a category for the Massachusett People [an early tribe in what is now Massachusetts]. But I don't see anything in the narrative about the ties to Native American associations, much less a specific tribe. Can you please clarify? Many thanks.

I only identified her as a free person of color from the census. J (Kelley) Grohsmeyer changed the category to Massachusett.

Thanks, M. I'll go ahead and remove the NA sticker for now. If someone finds evidence of NA family, we can add it back.
