Biography

John Thompson married Lucy Crouse on the 10 Apr 1844 in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia. She was born 17 Apr 1825, and died 15 Jun 1915 in Lapland[1].

The Nova Scotia census report of John's family for 1871 shows some anomalies from later ones[2]. It lists John (52) and Lucy (45) as well as their children Abraham (25), Mary Ann (24), and John (23), Lewis (20), Charles (19), Wallace (17) and Emma (14).. There is no mention of Abraham in later census reports and John is shown as the eldest child. Also, the name Abraham does not appear in the Family Bible. John and Lucy could read and write by the time this census was taken.

By 1891 Wallace is shown as Head of the household and Lucy and John are living with him and his family. John and Lucy are members of the Church of England in both reports, as is Wallace. Lavinia and the children are Lutheran.

John and Lucy had:

  1. John, b. 8 Aug 1845, Lapland; d. 8 Nov 1922, Nictaux Falls, Anna, Nova Scotia.
  2. Edwin D, b. 5 Sep 1848, Lapland d. 17 Jul 1918, Nictaux.
  3. Mary Ann, b. 6 Dec 1849, Lapland; d. Nov 1939, North Kingston, Kings, Nova Scotia.

  5. Charles William, b. 22 May 1853, Lapland; d. 8 Aug 1944, Vancouver, British Columbia.
  6. Wallace R, b. 25 Oct 1854, Lapland; d. 8 Jul 1936, Bridgewater.
  7. Emma Amelia, b. 3 Jul 1857, Lapland; d. 24 Aug 1941, Bear River, Digby, Nova Scotia.
  8. Joseph, b. 29 May 1863, Lapland; d. 7 Mar 1867.
