By 1851 John Hamilton was a tenant of a house & 9 acres & also a small landowner in Clonlara - with Catherine Bennett as a tenant.

A birth year of 1802 would have been a very unlikely as her youngest child Ellen Hamilton [Rockett] was born in 1863 making her 61 at Ellen's birth. It is more likely she was born c1823 & therefore aged about 58 (not 78) at her passing.

The Gaelic kingdom of Thomond was located in the west of Ireland encompassing the modern-day county of Clare, and parts of counties Limerick and Tipperary. Note: Both Patrick Hamilton (c1841-1873) & Arthur Hamilton (c1843-1877 migrated to Australia in the 1850's to 1860's. Co-incidentally two of their uncles with the same christian names also migrated to Australia around the same time. Their uncle Patrick Hamilton (c1828-1871) was living in the Emerald Hill (now South Melbourne) area. Both Patrick's named their 1st daughter after their mothers Ellen & Marcella respectively.
