John Crowell was born on October 21, 1695, in Yarmouth, Barnstable, Massachusetts, the son of John Crowell and his wife Sarah, whose maiden name and parents are as yet unknown.[1][2][3][4] That his mother was Sarah O'Killia is proven to be false by the estate settlement of that Sarah as a single woman in 1715.
John Crowell died on an English prison ship at Newport Rhode Island in 1778 during the Revolution, at the age of 83 years. His son Abner died in a similar manner.[citation needed]
