Biography

Rebecca Crowell was born January 17, 1794, the daughter of Reverend Thomas Trefry and Elizabeth Doane of Barrington, Shelburne, Nova Scotia[1] [2] [3]

On March 26, 1812, she married James Trefry, son of Joshua Pitman Trefry 2nd, and Elizabeth (Kinney) Trefry. They lived at Yarmouth[1] [2] [3]

Their children included:

  1. Thomas C. Trefry, born 1813, who married Lydia Churchill daughter of Lemuel 3rd, and died May 16, 1900[2] [3]
  2. James, born 1817, who married Theodosia Hatfield daughter of Colonel Job Hatfield on November 3, 1839, and moved to Michigan[2] [3]
  3. Rebecca, who died young[3]
  4. Catharine, born 1819, who married William Currier son of Nathaniel and died March 3, 1891[2] [3]
  5. Joshua Pitman, born January 11, 1824, who married Janet, daughter of Paul Crowell, M.P.P. on May 2, 1848[2] [3]
  6. Sarah, born 1822, who married George Hicks, son of James, and who lived and died in Massachusetts[3] [4]
  7. Joseph born February 26, 1826, who married Margery daugher of Captain Jesse Smith on December 21, 1848, and who drowned May 28, 1873 [2] [3]
  8. Mary Agnes, born 1829, who married Jonathan Moulton 2nd, son of Jonathan on October 22, 1848, and who died November 6, 1859[2] [3]
  9. Andrew who married Sarah Anne Allen, daughter of Lyman Allen on February 4, 1852[2] [3]
  10. Jane who married John Gray, son of James 1s, and whose 7 children all died young[2] [3]
  11. Hervey D. born January 4, 1838, who married Elizabeth daughter of Joseph Crowell[2] [3]
  12. Richard, born 1839, who married Mary daughter of Elkanah Trask on June 15, 1861, and then married Anne daughter of Timothy Smith of Cape Island on April 11, 1898, and who died May 21, 1901[2] [3]

Rebecca (Crowell) Trefry died at Yarmouth, on August 5, 1841[2]
