Biography

Charlotte Matilda Crowley was born in Canongate, Edinburgh, in 1869^[2]. Her parents were James Crowley and Helen or Ellen Hunt^[3], who were both from Ireland^[5], and in some records Charlotte's middle name is given as Hunt or 'Helen Hunt'^[16].

Charlotte married William Dougan in Queensferry in 1887^[6] and they had at least six children: Helen^[7], William^[8], Frances^[10], Jessie^[11], James^[12], and Charlotte^[13]. They lived in North Leith^[9] and St Giles^[14], Midlothian, and then moved to Bridgeton, Glasgow, Lanark^[15].

Charlotte died in 1919 in the Glasgow Hillhead district, aged 48^[16].
