Biography

Doris Eveline Crozier was born at Tarata **NJB: CHECK** near Inglewood, Taranaki, New Zealand on 20 November 1906. ^[1] She was the sixth child and fifth daughter of Bill Crozier and Nelly Johnson.

As children, all of Bill and Nelly Crozier's family had nicknames and Doris was called 'Bob', short for 'Bobby Burns'.

Having never had any need to see her Birth Certificate, Dorrie always wrote her middle name as 'Evelyn' because "that's how it's written". It seems the Registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages in Inglewood around the turn of the century wasn't aware of this as his spelling was occasionally very innovative!

As Dorrie got older she preferred to be called Doris because it was "a nice name and what her parents had intended her to be called". She also thought 'Dorrie' sounded child-like so not really appropriate for a retired woman.

Doris died at New Plymouth, Taranaki on 3 August 1998. Three days later she was buried at Awanui Cemetery in New Plymouth. ^[2] She was 91.
