Isaac Crump was born on 10 September 1799 in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia[1]and was christened on 13 April 1800 in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia[2], the son of Thomas Sr. Crump and Mary Harrison, and his brother from his parent's marriage was Thomas Jr Crumpton.
His (half) siblings from his father’s relationship with Mary Johnson, were Maria Crump, Caroline Crump, Arthur Benjamin Crumpton, Harriet Crump, Francis Crumpton, Samuel Crump, Charles Crumpton, Hannah Crump.
However, by 1802 his father had been incarcerated on Norfolk Island, for attempting to escape in the Governors vessel in 1800, as he was mustered on the Norfolk Island Victualing List [Ref CA513], leaving his wife and two sons behind in Sydney. He remained there for about four years before being transferred to Newcastle where he remained for a number of years without hope of being transferred back to his family[3].
Isaac's mother married Thomas Barton on 31 March 1810 at St. Philips Sydney, New South Wales, Australia[4][5][6][7] [8].
His mother and Thomas Barton appear to have returned to England, leaving Sydney aboard the "Dromedary" in 1810. There was advertised on 24 March 1810, that anyone being owed anything by "The following Persons being about to depart the Colony, all Claims or Demands on any of the said Persons are requested respectively to be presented to themselves for Payment; Viz.— In the Dromedary, Thomas Barton, Mary Crump,[9].
Mary died some time after 1810 but there is no record of her death in Australia.
Meanwhile, a young Mary Johnson had arrived in New South Wales on January 26, 1809 aboard the "Aeolus", and by 18 December 1811, Isaac's father, Thomas Sr, was in a relationship with her, as their first child, Maria, was born on 12 July of that year, was living with Mary Johnson, a convict who had arrived at Sydney Cove, Greater Sydney, New South Wales, Australia on January 26, 1809 and had been transferred to Newcastle[10].
Unconfirmed Ponderings: There is no record of Isaac having married and I can find no birth records for children in his time frame, and his name doesn't appear to be on any census records. He may have traveled inland where records weren't kept. Another possibility is that he traveled to England with his mother as he was still only aged 10 years in March/April 1810.
