Biography

Francis Crumpton was born on 20 June 1819 at Castlereagh, New South Wales, Australia [1] and was christened on 26 November 1820 in the St. Philip's Anglican Church, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia [2], the son of Thomas Crump and Mary Johnson.

He had a half brother from his mother's marriage to Edward Webb in 1810 and 3 half siblings from her marriage to William Lake, 2 half brother's from his father's marriage to Mary Harrison, and 7 siblings from his parent's relationship [3]. In all, his siblings were Thomas Crumpton Jr [half], Isaac Crump [half], George Webb [half], Maria Crumpton, Caroline (Crumpton) Brown, Arthur Benjamin Crumpton, Harriet (Crumpton) Knott, Samuel Crump, Charles Crumpton, Hannah Ailse (Crump) Sherwood, William John Lake [half], Louisa (Lake) Perry [half] and Thomas Lake [half].

Francis' parents' relationship broke down in around 1826, and his mother applied for himself and his brothers, Samuel and Charles to be accepted into an Orphan Home in 1828 stating that her partner Thomas Crump, had left her two years previously and, as she had a younger child to support, she was not able to provide for them [4].

Note: Without support Mary Johnson and her children became destitute. The application for admittance of Francis, Samuel & Charles to the orphanage records that her husband Thomas was not supporting her "NSW Govt. State Archives & Records Child Care & Protection": Crump. The boys were put into an orphanage and were taken out by Dr. Reed (Unconfirmed). Francis was apprenticed to D Reed as a Servant. Dr. Reed had property known as Inverarity and it is in a place called Bungonia near Goulburn. Dr. Reed died a few years later and the Children were supposedly able to care for themselves by then [5].

Francis died on 18 June 1883 at Mudgee, New South Wales, Australia [6][7] [8].

Crumpton-732 and Crumpton-343 appear to represent the same person because: I believe Francis Crumpton was the father of my illegitimate great grandmother Harriet Ralph due to DNA results and other evidence.
