Elizabeth was born in 1854 in Gwinnett County, Georgia. Her parents, and early family life, are not currently known. She passed away in 1886 and is buried in High Shoals (Old) Baptist Church Cemetery in Walton County, Georgia.[1]
She was the first wife of Henry Martin Shelnutt; they married on 10 March 1870, in Walton County, Georgia (Bk. D, p. 323).[2]
She is listed in the 1880 US Census (as "E Shebnutt"), living in Walton County, Georgia with her husband and several children. The children's initial match perfectly the first five children out of the eight they had in total.

She is possibly listed as a parent on the death certificate for "Mrs. N. J. Boxter", in 1938 in Atlanta. The parents are specified as "Henry Shelmutt" and "Elizabeth Compton", a close match, however it doesn't appear possible to put her into the list of the eight known children.
