Ramón "Manolo" Cruz Y Santana was born on 12 May 1925 in Las Piedras to Desideria Cruz Y Santana.[1] She wasn't married to his father, Manuel Rosario, who was married to someone else--Juana Lozada.Memories of Rosemary Diaz, Manolo's niece, as told to her niece Lisa Maria Clark on 30 November 2016. Manuel did acknowledge his paternity however, and he grew up knowing his half-siblings and for a time lived with his father.[2][3] On 7 January 1950 Manolo married Adela Santana.[4] A week after they moved to New York City, arriving in Newark, New Jersey on 15 Jan 1950. Manolo was Virginia Rosario's half brother, and according to Rosemary Diaz, Manolo lived for a while with them when he first came to New York City. However, she doesn't remember Adela being with him, and she can't imagine them allowing themselves to be separated--they were that much in love--crazy about each other and were for as long as she knew them. They had and raised three children in New York: Yolanda, Raymond and Pupí. Rosemary was Pupí's godmother. Raymond married and had a child Rachel. Manolo and Adela so missed Puerto Rico that they returned there, but their children being thoroughly Americanized didn't follow them.[5] Ramón died on 8 January 2004 in Santurce, San Juan, Puerto Rico.[6]
