Mary Lavina "Vina" Cude was the daughter of John M. Cude and Nancy Naomi Winters Cude. She was born in Grape Creek, Blanco County, Texas, on May 14, 1860. The family later moved to Winters' Mill (the present-day Wimberley, Hays County, Texas) to own and operate a mill started by Nancy's father William Carvin Winters. John and Nancy later sold the mill to Pleasant and AmandaWimberley and moved to Frio County, Texas.
Vina was about 17 when she married Edward A. Thompson in 1877. Vina and Edward had two children--Willis Edward Thompson (1878-1880) and Minnie Florence Thompson (1880-1917) who married Louis Edgar Ward. Vina's husband Edward Thompson, a dry-goods merchant, died at the age of 22 on September 14, 1880. (See their graves linked below.)
The widowed 22-year-old Vina Thompson married for the second time about 1882. Her second husband was Carol Alexander Halsell. (He spelled his name with one "l," but his children used double "l" at the end of their name.) The couple had three children before Carol's death at the age of 32. The children were Dallas Elmo Halsell (1883-1972) (who was buried with his wife in Mission Burial Park, North, in San Antonio); Allie Loraine Halsell (1885-1974) who married Millard Morgan Holmes (Allie and Millard were buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Devine, Medina County); and Callie Alexandrea Halsel (1887-1977) who married William Grover Driscoll (Callie's grave is linked below.)
The twice widowed 38-year-old Vina Cude Thompson Halsel married for the third time about 1898. Her third husband was John Wesley Fullerton, a farmer. The couple had only one child--Ozella who was born in December 1900 and died in September 1912 of typhoid. (See their graves linked below)
Vina died at the age of 74 on January 29, 1934, in Devine, Medina County, Texas, of nephritis. Her husband John Fullerton died 13 years later.
