Biography

Israel Cudworth, son of James and Mary (Parker) Cudworth, was baptized on April 18, 1641 at Barnstable. Israel married Joanna Unknown; she is named in his Will. Torrey presents Israel's marriage occurring in 1678. His eldest known child was born 17 Oct. 1678 at Scituate. Therefore, given gestation period for Joanna's pregnancy, Israel would have married about January 1678 to be in compliance with socio-religious conventions of the times. Israel and Joanna resided in Scituate per birth location of their only child in 1678 and Proprietors' Records in Scituate in May 8, 1725.

Daughter Mary is the only child mentioned in Israel's Will dated 1707/08. He mentions his son-in-law Jacob Vinall, Mary's husband, and their children, i.e. Israel's grandchildren. Israel named his wife, Joanna, executrix of his estate.

Of mention, Israel assumed guardianship of two other children, Israell Cudworth and Elizabeth Cudworth, both under age 14, in Scituate court papers dated October 7, 1723.

Israel received a one-sixth share of his father's estate, per his father's will.[1]

Israel passed away about 1727.

His will was dated 28 February 1707/08 and was proved in 1727 in Plymouth, Massachusetts Bay. He mentions his wife Joanna, his daughter Mary, wife of Jacob Vinal and his grandson Israel Vinall, and granddaughter Mary Vinall. his inventory was taken on 1 July 1727 in Scituate.[2]

One of the executors Jacob Vinall of the will refused administration, so his son Israel Vinal, grandson to Israel Cudworth was appointed the administrator of his estate.[3]
