Biography

Note: James Watt is speculated as being the father of Alonzo Culp. See Nancy Jane Culp for details.

Timeline

BIRTH: 15 Jul 1849. (Father Unknown, Possibly James Watt) [1]

MARRIAGE: 30 Mar 1876 to Loretta C Wycoff [2][3][4][5]

1880 Occupation: Carpenter

DEATH: 5 Jan 1901 [6]

BURIAL 13 Jan 1901, Richmond, OH. (Date estimated from Newspaper Funeral Announcement)[7]

Reasoning: Alonzo, Son of Nancy Jane Culp (daughter of Adam Culp)

As transcribed in the Muller Letter[1].

Alonzo, born July 15, 1849, bapt, Jan. 9 1850 – Parent, Nancy J. Culp – Sponsor, Mother

This indicates that either Nancy Jane Culp (daughter of Adam) or Nancy "Jane" Wright (wife of Adam) is the Sponsor and Mother. However, while Nancy Wright may have been called Nancy Jane Culp when married, she died in 1836 so could not be the mother. Additionally, Adam Culp and his second wife, Anna Alford had a child 10 months before Alonzo was born, Albert Tell Culp. Albert's birth was transcribed on the line above Alonzo's.

Albert Tell, born Sept. 22, 1848 – Parents, Adam & Anna Culp – Sponsors, Parents
bapt. Sept. 2 1849.

So, while Albert has both Adam and Anna listed as his parents. Only Nancy is listed as Alonzo's parent.

Thus, we conclude that Nancy Jane Culp, daughter of Adam, is the mother of Alonzo.

There also exist tantalizing tidbits of information suggesting that a man surnamed Watt or Wyatt, possibly named James, may be Alonzo's father. Thus far, however, no useful source has been found.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Alonzo by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share DNA with Alonzo:
