Catherine Cummings came from the Isle of Roosa, Scotland in 1833 with her four brothers Alexander, Rory, William and James. They landed at night in the middle of Sydney harbour. In the morning the first thing they saw was a public hanging. In search of homesteads, the came to River Denys. She married Murdoch MacLeod and settled on a lot in River Denys about 3/4 of a mile east of the Alexander John MacLeod farm and a mile back from the Valley Mills road.[1]
