Biography

Motel owner who served as Mayor of Hodgenville. Died of a heart attack at the age of 45. LaRue County Herald News: MAYOR CLAUDE CUNDIFF DIES SUDDENLY OF HEART ATTACK WEDNESDAY NIGHT Claude Cundiff, age forty-five years, mayor of Hodgenville, died of a heart attack last Wednesday night in the office of the Hodgenville Motel near here which he owned and operated He was stricken while talking and died with in a few minutes. He had just entered into his term as Hodgenville's mayor, a position in which he donated much time and effort. For a number of years he was a building contractor, but retired from the contracting business after owning the motel a few years ago. He was a Kentucky Colonel, a member of Hodgenville First Baptist Church and New Haven Masonic Lodge. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Mattie Cundiff; two daughters, Mona L. Cundiff, a student at Campbellsville College, and Myra J. Cundiff, at home; six sisters, Mrs. Myrtle Geoghegan, Fern Creek, Mrs Gertie Thomas, Louisville, and Mrs. Rena Taylor, of near Hodgenville; Mrs. Nannie Greghagan, Anchorage; Mrs Cora Church and Mrs. Anna Jeffries, both of Valley Station and six brothers, Wilson, Harvey, Otis, and Buell Cundiff all of Louisville; Willie Cundiff of Akron, Ohio, and Willie Cundiff of Lyons, this county. Masonic Rites in Hodgenville Saturday out of respect to Mayor Cundiff. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the First Baptist Church herre with burial in Red Hill Cemetery.
