Jane Cunliffe was born October 29th 1872 in Parr. She was the daughter of Henry Cunliffe and Margaret (Morris) Cunliffe. She was christened on December 29th 1872 at St Peter's Church in Parr. The register gives her father's occupation as miner, and the family's abode as Parr.
Jane had an older half-sibling, Mary Barlow, and a full sister Elizabeth, a year older than her. Elizabeth died in 1877, at the age of six.
Margaret's father died in 1879.
By April 3rd 1881, Henry and Margaret were living in Chapel Field, Rainford. Henry was working as a collier. Five of their children were in the household - Jane (aged 8), Margaret A (6), Agnes (4), Thomas (2) and Elizabeth (1). Margaret's nephew John Henry Morris, aged 15, was also living with them, and working as a collier.
By April 5th 1891, they were living in Cemetery Road, Adlington. Henry was still working as a collier; there were six children - Jane (18), Margaret (16), Agnes (14), Thomas (12), Abram (7) and John (3). The three girls were working as cotton weavers.
Jane married Charles Henry Sanderson on January 2nd 1897 at St Paul's Church in Adlington. He was 33 and a widower, she was 24 and hadn't been married before. He was an overlooker. He lived in Babylon Lane, Heath Charnock, Adlington. Jane lived at 8 Chapel Street, Adlington. Charles's father Henry (who had died) had been a foreman. The marriage witnesses were John Sanderson and Jane's sister Margaret Ann Cunliffe.
Charles and Jane's first child, Willis (christened July 25th 1897) died the same year he was born. When he was christened, they were living in Railway Road Adlington. By the time the next child, Agnes, was christened on August 14th 1898, they had moved to Babylon Lane in Heath Charnock.
Jane's mother died in 1899 in Adlington (Chorley district). She was 58.
By March 31st 1901, Charles and Jane were living in Babylon Lane, Heath Charnock. Charles was working as an overlooker in the cotton mill, and they had two little children - Agnes aged 2, and baby John.
Agnes died in 1906 at the age of 7.
By April 2nd 1911, they were still living in Chorley. Charles's brother John was living with them.
Jane died in 1912 in Chorley district. She was only 39.
