Biography

Howard was born on 30 December 1904 in Fairmont, Marion, West Virginia, United States. His parents were Granville Lafayette Cunningham and Mary Thonen.^[1]

By 1920 he can be seen at age 15 with his parents and a number of siblings.^[2]

A 1940 draft card gives his full name, the birth date of 29 Dec 1904, and birthplace of Fairmont, Marion county, West Virginia. His lists his mother Mrs. Mary Cunningham. He was living in New York. The card is stamped "Hon.Discharge 4/2/45".^[3]

Howard married Jane Schabacker on 9 March 1946 in Buffalo, New York, United States.^[4]

Howard died in 1976.^[5] A Florida obituary mentions his home in Munster, Indiana, death in Hammond, Indiana, wife Jane and two sons. ^[6]

Research Note

A Howard Cunningham from West Virginia, born 16 Feb 1904 died in 1989 in West Virginia, but this is a different person.^[7] The 1976 obituary clearly identifies the family of the Howard born on 30 Dec.

Yet another Howard Cunningham, born 13 Dec 1905, died 4 Jun 1976 and is buried in Indiana.
