Biography

Barbara (Cuntz) Büsch has French origins.

Catherina Barbara Cuntz was born in Preuschdorf, Alsace, France on 8 March 1788. She was baptized on 9 March 1788[1] in Preuschdorf. Her parents are George Heinrich Cuntz and Eva Catherina Burckhard.

On 25 August 1809 in Preuschdorf, Georg Heinrich Büsch married Catherina Barbara.[2]

Together Georg Heinrich and Catherina Barbara Büsch had seven children. The oldest child would die young and their second child was stillborn.

Georg Heinrich Büsch, born 7 October 1810[3]
Stillborn Female Büsch, born on 5 May 1813[4]
Barbara Büsch, born 16 October 1814[5]
Eva Elisabeth Büsch, born 17 November 1818[6]
Georg Heinrich Büsch, born 23 March 1821[7]
Georg Büsch, born 26 April 1827[8]
Johann Philipp Büsch, born 5 February 1830[9]

In 1834, the family left Preuschdorf and arrived in New York, New York on the ship, Henry IV on 18 June 1834. Their departure was from Le Havre, France.[10] They settled in Buffalo, Erie, New York where they operated a bakery and grocery.[11]

Barbara Buesch outlived her husband Henry, who passed away in 1844,[12] by more than 30 years. In the 1850 U.S. Census for Buffalo, New York, Barbara is enumerated with her two youngest sons, George and Philipp.[13] Beginning with the 1855 New York State Census and all censuses following, Barbara is living with her daughter, Elisabeth Baitinger and her family.[14][15][16][17][18]

Catherina Barbara Buesch passed away in 1876 in Buffalo, Erie, New York.[19] It is not known at this time where she is buried.
