A record of the birth of this Walter Irving Currant who was born, December 16, 1897 in Boston, Suffolk, Massachusetts. Gives his parents as Walter L. (inferred Currant) a "truckman" and Jennie L.[1]

A record of the marriage of this Walter I. Currant to Margaret Margaret E. Christensen, February 4, 1922 in Boston, Suffolk, Massachusetts. Of this Walter, this record also tells us he was a 23yr old fireman, entering into his 1st marriage at the time. It also tells us he was living at 107 Hollingsworth St. in Lynn, Massachusetts at the time and that his parents were Walter L. (inferred Currant) and Jennie L. Hatstat.[2]

CENSUS':

The 1900 US Census of Boston, Suffolk, Massachusetts finds this Walter J. (? J. uncertain), at the age of 2yrs old and given as born in Massachusetts in December of 1897. He is living there in Boston, on Princeton St. with his parents, Walter L. Currant and Lettie J., a 10yr old brother, Robert L. and a male given as the grandfather of his father (hence his great grandfather, 87yr old Anthony.[3]

The 1920 US Census of Somerville, Middlesex, Massachusetts finds this Walter at the age of 22yrs old and given as a single, "engineer on a tugboat" who was born in Massachusetts. He is living there in Somerville, on Michigan Ave. with his mother Jennie L. and her 2nd husband, Andrew L. Swim (sic) and his brother, 29yr old Robert L. Currant.[4]

The 1930 US Census of Medford, Middlesex, Massachusetts finds this person given as Walter "R." Currant at the age of 32yrs old and given as a truckman for a trucking company, born in Massachusetts and married since age 22yrs old. He is living there in Medford in a dwelling he is renting for $70 per month, at 18 Abbott St. with his 31yr old wife, Margaret E. and their four children, 8yr old Walter S., 7yr old Margaret E., 3yr old Eleanor S. and perhaps 11-months old Ruth B.[5]

The 1940 US Census of Medford, Middlesex, Massachusetts finds this Walter I. Currant at the age of 42yrs old and given as a furniture mover, born in Massachusetts. He is living there in Medford in a dwelling he owns, valued at $3,800 at 567 Main St. with his 42yr old wife, Margaret E. and seven persons who are given as he and Margaret's children; 22yr old John (who miraculously shows up in this 1940 census, but was not given in the 1930 census and would have been born four years before Walter and Margaret married), 18yr old Walter, 17yr old Evelyn, (who was given as Margaret in the 1930 US Census), 13yr old Eleanor, 11yr old Ruth, 6yr old Dorothy and 3yr old Patricia.[6]

MILITARY RECORDS:

According to this newspaper article, this Walter I. Currant was a US Army service member who served in World War 1 and was severely wounded then.

PRIVATE WALTER I CURRANT ENLISTED IN EAST BOSTON

Private Walter I. Currant, Co. H, 101st Infantry, who was severely wounded in action on July 13, according to word received from the War Department by his mother, Jennie L. Swimm of Michigan Ave., Somerville, was a member of Co H, 5th Regimen, M.N.G., and served on the Mexican border, in 1916. At the outbreak of the war with Germany he was again called, and was transferred, with the 9th, into what is now the 101st, at Framingham, and went overseas in September. When he enlisted he lived on Lexington St., East Boston. He has a married brother, Robert L. Currant, residing in Everett.[7]

A U.S. Veteran's Administration service record for this Walter Irving Currant reports his service during World War 1 as from July 25, 1917 to April 28, 1919 and indicates that he served as a Private lcl Company H 101st Inf. It also gives his date of birth as December 16, 1897 and his date of death as December 15, 1962.[8]


DEATH:

A brief newspaper death announcement says this Walter I. Currant died December 15, 1962. It indicates he was living in Medford, Massachusetts at 567 Main St. at the time. It gives his wife as a survivor and indicates that her name was Margaret E. (Christenson). It also gives the names of five surviving daughters, including their married last names and two surviving sons.[9]
