Margaret Currie, known as Maggie, was born at Feildhouse in Fenwick in East Ayrshire, Scotland on 14th April 1867, twin daughter of Robert Currie and his wife Annie Dunlop .
At some stage Maggie emigrated to New Zealand where she married fellow Scot John Cheyne on 6th December 1892 at Ashhurst Registry Office in the Manawatu area of New Zealand. Maggie was then 25, John 33. Although Maggie was a spinster, John had been married previously … his first wife Mary Sangster had died six months earlier, leaving John with four young children to care for.
