Ellen was born about 1836 in Bermondsey, London[1]. She is the daughter of Thomas Curtis and Eliza Elkington. She had two elder sisters (Eliza and Matilda), one younger sister (Louisa) and one younger brother (George Thomas)[2].
Her father, Thomas, died when she was about 3 year old[3].
At the age of 5 in 1841, she is living with her grandparents Simeon and Elizabeth Elkington[4] and by 1951 her mother and siblings have also joined the household.[5]
Ellen passed away in 1891 and her death was registered at St Olave Bermondsey, England. She never married.
