Biography

1880 Census shows him as head of household with Mille Curtiss (daughter) and Hannah (wife), Annie B. (Daughter), Johnathan B (son) and Winthrop? (Son) living in Village of Horseheads, Chemung County, New York. His profession was listed as lawyer. Place of birth New York for he, his wife, all the kids, and both Hannah's parents. His father listed as being born in England and his mother Massachusetts. Another census of 1865 and 1900 show his mother born in Connecticutt.

Rev. Gordon Curtis, his 3rd great grandson, described Dewitt's life on Rootweb:

"Most reknowned of this group was Dewitt Clinton Curtis, lawyer, first police justice, community leader and state officer in the IOOF. He wrote the sketch of his family in History of Chemung County. He was born in White Store 1829 and died 1905. Dewitt married Hannah Mosher, dau. of Jonathan Mosher, eminent business man in Horseheads. Dewitt was his business manager and had his office in the Mosher Building, (still standing)."

Dewitt was born in 1829. Dewitt was the child of John Curtis and Clarissa Clark. Dewitt passed away in 1905. [1]
