Corporal Thomas Curtis served in the United States Civil War. Enlisted: 21 Sep 1861 Mustered out: 17 May 1862 Side: USA Regiment(s): Company G, Connecticut 8th Infantry Regiment
Birth
Thomas Chandler Curtis was born 23 Feb 1824, possibly in Providence, Rhode Island. His parents may have been Daniel B. Curtis and Eliza (Dennis) Curtis. No records to confirm birth have been found, nor have any records been found to prove who his parents were.
Family legend says that he was taken in by Daniel and Eliza, which might explain why birth records have not been locatable, but "siblings" records have been located. The legend also says that Daniel and Eliza would lock Thomas in a barn while they attended camp meetings during the Second Awakening.
The only information that could be verified about Thomas follows:
Marriage
Thomas married Phebe Jane Wheeler on 30 May 1849, in North Stonington. Barbour says that they were both of Norwich, so it's probable that they had moved there before they married.

Note: For years everyone in the family assumed that Frances A, twin to Frank was the same child as the Frances that was born in 1863. In looking at the Census records, 2nd great granddaughter, T Counce, discovered that there are two different Frances. In looking at the 1860 US Census record and the 1870 US Census record, T discovered that the first was twin (and this is noted on the 1860 Census Record) and the year of birth of Frances on the 1870 Census record is 1863. It is believed that the twin, Frances died prior to 1863.

Thomas was a Brick Mason up until approximately 1880.[14][15][16]
