The early years

Wesley Elmer Curtis was born on 18 Jul 1876 in Lincoln, Nebraska to William H Curtis and Celinda Hannah Roberts.

WESLEY ELMER CURTIS SERVICES HELD WEDNESDAY AT CARMEN[11]

Wesley Elmer Curtis, 81, died Sunday in Masonic hospital, Cherokee. The funeral was at 2:30 pm., Wendesday in the methodist church at Carmen. Burial was in the cemetery northwest of Carmen under direction of Wentworth funeral home, Carmen.

Curtis was married to the former Sarah Agnes Harkins and moved to near Great Bend, Kansas, before coming to Oklahoma about three years after the opening of the Cherokee Strip.

He lived on a farm near Alva for several years and spent the remainder of his life in the Cherokee and Carmen communities. Lately he lived on a farm near cherokee with a son.

He was preceded in death by his wife.

Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Evah Randolph, Jet; Mrs. Blanche Willey, Enid; Mrs. Hannah Thorne, Enid; Mrs. Agnes Randolph, Pratt, Kansas; and Mrs. Verdah Davies, Oakland, Calif.; six sons, Raymond, of Drumright; Matthew, Cherokee; Paul, Whittier, Calif.; Ernest, Helena; Earl, Hayward, Calif.; Billy, Hayward Calif.; one sister, Mrs. Grace Porter, La Junta, Calif.; one brother, M.H. Crutis, Modesto, Calilf.; 28 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
