Note: In 1920, After the first world war he traveled to South America as a representative of the Auto-Ordnance corporation to demonstrate the Thompson Submachine Gun to the War Department of the Argentine Republic.
Dad was almost arrested in Argentina. He arrived with the demo weapons and went to the hotel. Some time later, the ammunition [several thousand rounds] came in on another ship. The Argentine customs thought he might be there to supply weapons and ammo for a revolution. He was detained for some period of time until the counsel got him cleared. He was chosen for the trip because he was young, single and could assemble/disassemble the "Tommy" faster than his co-workers [and might have been considered expendable] - as told by his son Doren.
He was living in Cleveland in 1940 and working as a draftsman. Shotly thereafter, according to the 2013 obituary of his son William, he moved the family to San Diego.
