Thank you for the bio improvements you added for James Adamson. G. Breed
The Profile Improvement Project (PIP) is performing a check-in with project members. Please review the following and respond to let us know that you are content with your current team or if you would like to be more involved.
The Project operates in a team structure. There are currently three participant PIP Teams -- The Maintenance Category Team, the Unknowns Team, and the Biography Team. There is also the Voyage Team which guides new Voyagers. See the Profile Improvement Project Teams for a brief outline of each team.
There are currently three different Biography Teams - The Biography Team, the Abandoned Team, and the Popular Team.
You're currently identified as a member of the Biography Team. The Biography Team works on profiles from their watchlist and other profiles that interest them.
Are you happy with the Team you are on? If you are interested in working with a different Team, please let us know.
If you have not already done so, we invite you to join the email GoogleGroup and text chat Discord channel for our project. (You will need your Wiki ID for both). Neither is required; we also use the Profile_Improvement tag in G2G for Project announcements.
We thank you for all you do to help the Profile Improvement Project meet its goals. We would like to hear about the successes you’ve had and would also appreciate any feedback you have to help improve the Project. Please share your thoughts in a reply to this comment or via private message to one of us.
Sincerely,
Debi Hoag and Kay Knight, Co-Leaders, Profile Improvement Project

I am happy working on my own choice of profiles. I am currently working of the children of my great-grandfather (all fifteen of them). I had added the children but am going back and revising their profiles, creating profiles for each of their children and grandchildren also if they are deceased. I also add spouses and try to add at least the parents of the spouse. If I can find an existing profile for the spouse line I try to get them and their spouse line connected also with at least a three or four sources and the beginning of a biography.
In March I will have been a member for eight years and have a Club 100 badge for every month since I joined. My total average is 200 plus per month which is as much as I can do because the research for well written profiles takes a lot of time. I spend several hours almost every day.
I don't work on challenges etc because I joined hoping to have found a site where complete and sourced biographies. I have been disappointed that this seems to not be important. I loved the Voyager program, Robin was my guide. - I don't add stickers etc. but otherwise think my profiles are as good as sources permit.
I don't understand why the Powers that Be can seem to count numbers for everything but the quality of biographies. I thought that "genealogically defined" might be an answer a few years ago, but a lot of squabbling on details seem to be all that followed. I wrote a note to the manager last month but got no reply. If we had some some criteria for various levels of completeness maybe that profile writers would put an appropriate sticker or whatever on their own profiles. Some sort of oversight would be needed. At least they would have something to count.
Wikitree seems to use a shotgun method of profile creation. 1. Have a competition and count profiles added - many with incomplete basic information and we are lucky if there is one good source - Reward with thanks, cheers, prizes 2 have a competition for adding, One date, OR one place, OR one source OR or connection 3 Repeat #2 over and over and over
It seems to me that this project is the only one on Wikitree that helps improve and support members ability to write biographies. I am seventy-seven years old, but might be willing to put some time into this type of team. Otherwise, I will try to leave a legacy of complete and sourced family profiles. Thank you for you work on supporting improving biographies. Cherry
Thanks for your response. I can understand "going wide" on ancestors, as I have done the same. My gg uncle had 16 children and I've done all of his deceased descendants (as well as his siblings and their descendants).
I think that you can find some things that might interest you. The Profile Improvement Project lists several things. You might find the monthly Sourcers Challenge, Saturday Sourcing Spring, and GEDImprove of interest. Overall, there is always a monthly G2G post like https://www.wikitree.com/g2g/1697175/whats-happening-around-wikitree-in-february-2024. Of those you might like the connection combat https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Connection_Combat.

I really enjoyed the Voyager program and greatly appreciate Robin's help. Mine may not be perfect, but are greatly improved since finishing the program. When I worked on Voyager I was revisiting profiles from the family of my maternal grandmother and have now moved on my paternal grandmother. I have almost completed her sister's family. I've worked on her profile, added profiles for all her children and their spouses (and usually the parents of the spouse and their deceased children). In some cases there were existing profiles that could be connected or improved. I contacted other members who had profiles with no sources or sources but no biography and was able to add sources, write the bio and add more children or another spouse to some of the profiles. I am just about to the point of being able to review the profiles and make sure the links are made to other family members that were created after the initial profiles. I also have photos of some of these folks that I can add. I have had to do a lot of research on these profiles so it was slow going. I haven’t come across any other family members on WikiTree to help. As far as I can see, what I am doing doesn’t fit into any of the Voyage Team categories. I joined WikiTree (6th anniversary in March) to add a record of my family and make it to WikiTree standards – which does benefit WikiTree but I don’t have time to worry about profiles that others have added unless I can connect them to my family in some way. I am 76 years old and still working on profiles or researching almost every day. If you can see how this might benefit the Voyage Program, I would be happy to be included. If you would like to count my work in the program, let me know how to document it. I have more to do than I will ever accomplish on my family. I am always open to suggestions that might help me improve my profiles. Thank you for all the work that you do to improve WikiTree… I still cringe when I see the condition of many profiles. Cherry
