Abby J. Cutting was born 28 December 1848 to John and Mary Ann Cutting of Southbridge, Worcester County, Massachusetts. Her birth was registered 12 December 1855 with the town clerk at Southbridge. John Cutting, a laborer, was born in Boston. His wife, Mary Ann, was born in Connecticut. They also registered the births of two other children:
Andrew H. Barrett, a shoemaker, and Abbie J. Cutting were married 29 December 1869 at Southbridge, Worcester County, Massachusetts. At the time of their marriage, Andrew lived in Ware, Hampshire County, Massachusetts, and Abbie lived in Southbridge. Andrew was born about 1844 in Woodstock, Windham County, Connecticut, to Joseph and Caroline Barrett. Abbie, the daughter of John Cutting, was born about 1848 in Southbridge.[2]
In 1900 Abbie Barrett was living on Elm Street in Southbridge, Worcester County, Massachusetts. She was born December 1850 in Massachusetts. Her father was born in Massachusetts, and her mother in Connecticut. Abbie was widowed and had given birth to 8 children, of which 6 were living.
