Biography

Elisabeth Sire was born 12 Mar 1719. She was the daughter of Louis Sire and Marie-Josephte Michel. She was baptized the next day at Saint Charles des Mines, Grand-Pré, Acadia. Her godparents were Claude Boudrot and Marie Bourg.[1]

In 1752 Jean, Élisabeth and and their 5 children were residents of Anse au Comte-Saint-Pierre on Isle Saint-Jean. He was a ploughman, 43 years of age, and owned farm animals. Marie Josèphe’s parents and brother Jean lived on the neighbouring lots.[2]

In 1756, Jean, Élisabeth and their 4 daughters Marie-Josèphe, Marguerite, Marie-Françoise and Marie-Rose left Isle Saint-Jean aboard one of two ships that left the Island at the end of September and disembarked at the port of Quebec about 3 weeks later. [3]

After Jean's death, she married Jacques Hamel, widower of Madeleine Frenet, 23 Feb 1767 in Kamouraska. [4]

At least 2 of her daughters were married in Quebec Province, both in Trois-Rivières (Source: IGD):

  1. Marie Josèphe, m. 1772 to Jacques FLIBOT, son of Gabriel and Jeanne BRINDAMOUR
  2. Marie, m. 1774 to Joseph BEAUSOLEIL, son of Jean Baptiste BEAUSOLEIL and Claire DUMAS, both deceased.

She is still alive in 1774.
