Research Notes

Merges

Profile merged, date of death different: 22 October 1688 and 6 January 1710. Have gone with the earlier as it has a location and the second date does not.
A proposed merge with Dabney-820 was rejected (see comments), noting that the daughter of Cornelius Dabney died unmarried on 4 April 1688.[2]
The biography (above, as of 10 December 2021) is based on the information that was in the text of that profile (Dabney-820), which had Elizabeth born 1668 in King William County, Virginia, and died in 1702, "Williamsburg, York, Virginia".[1]

Birth: There is a record of an Elizabeth Dabney, daughter of George, being baptized in St. Peter's Parish:

Eliz. daugh, of Geo. Dabney bapt. ye 11th of Nov., 1698.[3]

Considering the profiles attached as children to this profile, this record cannot be for her. The only other record of an Elizabeth Dabney in the Parish Register is the death (on 4 April 1688) of Elizabeth, daughter of Cornelius.

The datafield entries for this profile about her birth were changed from "1660 in St. Peter's Parish" to "about 1668" in Colony of Virginia. (King William County did not exist prior to 1701.[4])

Death: Note that 6 January 1710 may be the correct death date for the wife of Thomas Pettus.

Parents: It appears that the Dabney name became a Pettus family name following the marriage of Thomas's son Stephen Pettus to Mary Dabney (c1720). It is doubtful that his mother was named Elizabeth Dabney.

The Elizabeth who married Thomas Pettus is not the daughter of Cornelius and Susannah Dabney, who died unmarried.[2]
According to the SAR application of a descendant, Elizabeth was the daughter of George Dabney, who was the son of Theodore Dabney. Therefore, she has been detached from John D'Aubigney.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Elizabeth by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Elizabeth:

We should hire Kathy Forbes to fix this Pettus mess. Why is this person, if indeed it is a real person, still attached to this spouse and children?

I've added the info from the text of Dabney-820, but that information from Pettus Lineage needs verification. A quick Google search looking for the cited book turned up what might be it & a couple of leads you might want to explore:

update - couldn't find in the archive.org book the info as copied into Dabney-820 & then realized that it's a different title: The Pettus Family, published in 1957.

update 2 - take a salt shaker with you when reading http://www.southern-style.com/Pettus.htm (slim on sources, high on family tradition... take with a grain [or more] of salt & seek better sources before making changes to profiles)

Dabney-820 and Dabney-425 do not represent the same person because: comment posted in response to the proposed merge:
Elizabeth Dabney, the daughter of Cornelius, born about 1684 died in 1688. She didn't marry anyone. She is not the same person as the wife of Thomas Pettus.

Therefore, this match has been set to rejected.

Dabney-820 and Dabney-425 appear to represent the same person because: these profiles appear to be intended to represent the same person, but her parents are not known. Do you have sources to support that she's the daughter of Cornelius Dabney and Susannah (Swann West) Dabney? If not, recommend merging after detaching the parents (include them in the text of the merged profile).

You should change her death date (or find a reliable source for it), as two of her children are born after she died. Are they not, perhaps, her children?
Dabney-464 and Dabney-425 appear to represent the same person because: same spouse, same son. According to SAR application, her name was Elizabeth (not Mary Elizabeth). Please merge.
The referenced SAR application has her name as Elizabeth Dabney, daughter of George Dabney, son of Theodore Dabney. As such, we need to detach her from the parents' shown and correct her LNAB. See G2G discussion with regard to these lines. Thanks.
Dabney-9 and D'Aubigney-3 appear to represent the same person because: same person, spouse, kids
