Mary was born about 1844. She was the daughter of William Dady and Ameda Case. She passed away in 1879. Mary "Janie" Deskins is buried next to her husband Rush in Sutton Cemetery, west of Baldwin Kansas. FAG memorial 230053721 reflects that her gravestone lacks an engraved name, but says "mother" on one face, "Wife" on another, and the base says "Deskines". FAG #5041458 shows both gravestones for Janie and Rush Deskins.

His family sometimes used the surname spelling Deskines. The story has been handed down that someone in the family thought the surname was of French origin and should be spelled that way. The surname Deskins (Diskins or Diskin) is Irish in origin.
