Richard Dahler was born 17 December 1920, in Buffalo, Erie, New York, the last child of German immigrants Walter William Dahler and Mary Magdalena Hauser.
He was in the US Army, stationed in Norfolk, England, but refused to discuss his role there. Afterwards he went to the University of Buffalo and went into the new field of material handling engineering. He worked for Ford tractor in various capacities that took him around the world.
In 1960, he was introduced to the widow Geraldine Dahler. Richard was working temporarily in Dearborn, Michigan at the World Headquarters. They married 24 September, 1960 in Livonia, Wayne, Michigan.
In 1965, his work took him, Gerry, and her two children to Lima, Peru and in 1968 to Mexico City for a year each.
Dick and Gerry took 52 cruises during their 52 years of marriage.
He was murdered by a caregiver, who gave him an overdose of drugs in order to steal. He died of a heart attack two days later 26 September, 2012. The caregiver was not prosecuted as the evidence of the murder had already been destroyed by embalming by the time an autopsy was agreed to.
He was laid in a mausoleum in Oakland Hills Memorial Gardens in Novi, Oakland, Michigan.
